Cisco Certified Technician (CCT) — Routing and Switching (RSTECH) v3.0 exam
The Cisco Certified Technician (CCT) RSTECH is an entry-level course and the most basic course among Cisco Certifications. There are three CCT exam streams.
1) The Cisco certified Technician (CCT) — Collaboration (Supporting Cisco Collaboration System Devices (CLTECH) v1.0) with the exam code (100–890 CLTECH).
2) The Cisco certified Technician (CCT) — Data Center (Supporting Cisco Data Center System Devices (DCTECH) v3.0) with the exam code (010–151 DCTECH).
3) The Cisco Certified Technician (CCT) — Routing and Switching (RSTECH) v3.0 exam with exam code (100–490 RSTECH).
Making a choice on which of the three entry-level courses to take should be dependent on the skills you want to advance or specialize in. For instance, if you want to specialize in Routing and Switching, The CCT routing and switching stream would be the most relevant for you. It is also the simplest route to take because it is not dependent on the other two streams.
When you opt for CCT routing and switching specialization, the relevant associate-level exam after that is the Cisco Certified Network Associate exam. To be ready for this exam, you will be required to take additional advanced training in Routing, Switching, Wide Area Networks, and IP addressing. You will also be expected to learn other protocols tested at the CCNA level.
In addition to CCNA, Cisco also offers the Cisco-certified DevNet Associate and CyberOps Associate exams at the Associate level. Although the Cisco DevNet Associate exam is at this level, the foundation topics in this specialization touch on all Cisco technologies. This exam calls for rigorous preparation among the three Associate exams. An exam that forces you to learn the basics of the three CCT specializations plus the other Associate level exam — The CyberOps Associate.
The Cisco CCT course introduces very basic networking concepts. It introduces the learner to the networking world. When you enroll for the Cisco Certified Technician (CCT) — Routing and switching course, you learn about networking, networking Technologies, Cisco equipment, troubleshooting and maintenance of Cisco Switches and Routers and their related cabling, modules, and operating systems.
You also learn about the interfaces used in various devices, their components, and modules, and how you can configure them. Furthermore, you learn about the standards, rules, and protocols that are followed in network communications. Additionally, there is a detailed discussion of the OSI reference model comparatively with the TCP/IP Model and the various layers of each of these models; including layer 2 addresses (MAC addresses) and layer 3 addresses (IPv4 and IPv6 addresses).
Finally, there is a review of Cisco Devices and Software used in networking and how you can identify the equipment to use for various business needs. Because, this is a technical-level course, the tools needed by Network Technicians to Support Networks are also very important and are highly referenced in this course.
